New Kindergarten - Concreting

This is a part of the building of the new kindergarten that I completely missed. And it was so interesting, I had to include it. But it is a little out of order.

(Left - the wooden flooring has been layed over supporting beams and dirt packed between the supports)

We have covered the construction of the walls and also the application of the plaster and paint, and the cement render on the lower part of the walls.

(Right - in the planned kitchen the workmen start to lay the large stones for the concrete base)

However we have't covered the construction of the concrete paths or the floor in the planned kitchen. We normally lay concrete with some aggregate included or using reinforcing mesh. Neither of these are used directly.

The concrete is mixed with local sand, which often contains pebbles and rocks, so it forms a sort of aggregate. However, in place of reinforcing mesh, they use local stone. These are very large, often cracked into smaller pieces, and then layed as a solid base. The tops are checked and levelled to produce a fairly level surface. This is often checked with a string line. Over this stone foundation the concrete is layed.
