Dance Competition - Waiting and Preparing

In 2008 when I was there Puma Marca participated in the local schools' dance competitions. It appeared to cover every possible school around Cusco.

This year it was on again, and we all had a day off from school to attend the competitions held in Cusco - in front of thousands of people.

(Left - whilst most of the dance teams wore traditional Peruvian costumes and colours, Puma Marca addressed a local story or legend as far as I understand. I noted the early people and the parts that the monkey played with them. Hence the costumes and the number of children dressed as monkeys)

I have divided this into 2 parts - the warm up in the morning and then the actual dances through the main plaza in Cusco. Again there are some notes to add to the pictures.

(Left - two of my favourite teachers - they were there two years ago - were there to give encouragement, and also help with the costumes and make up.)

(Right - as usual the children are always happy to pose for photos)

(Left - a photo with a memory from our last trip - the girl in the centre in pink is Hilda and she was in Year 6 when I was there last. In the back are Jackie, Liz, Amanda, Gerry, self and one other? - We remembered Hilda from last time, and she remembered us too.
