Lima to Cusco

(Left - a smoggy street early in the morning)

June 3 and went and I was in Lima, had a few hours sleep, and woke at 6am. I had not unpacked the night before, so had very little to do to get ready. I was given an early breakfast in the dining room (toast, jam, hot water and chicory essence!)

(Right - it seems like most of the traffic to the airport follows the coast road)

I was ready for a 7am pick up but he arrived early, so I set off for
the airport.

(Left - the smog blots out the beach and coastal scenery)

(Right - peak hour traffic, as the locals go about their day's activities)

(Left - my aircraft for the one hour flight)

(Right - above Lima we head east over the Andes, with the clouds forming patterns in the valleys)

(Left - the valleys stand out)

(Left - we start to approach the Andes, and their snow capped peaks)

(Right - we seem so close to the peaks below)

(Left - one of the higher peaks)

(Right - we approach Cusco, and start the descent onto the single runway)

(Left - the approach is either straight in, or around the hills to the eastern end, where the ground does start to seem quite close)

(Right - we go around the hill)

(Left - then straighten up for the final touch down)

(Right - in the airport is a welcoming sign - but also suggesting that you hold onto your Machu Picchu train tickets for possible refunds until they repair the line)
