Up to the School - to start work

On Monday June 7th it was time to start our volunteering work. We assembled outside the front door at 9.30 to make our first trip up the mountain side to the school.

(Left - we assemble outside the volunteer house)

(Right - we pack in the bus for the 45 min trip up)

Today was scheduled as an orientation, where we would be shown
around, but not actually do much work.

(Left - the view on the way up across the valley)

(Right - another view)

(Left and Right - our road to the school winds higher up one side of the valley to Puma Marca)

(Left - We arrive on the outskirts of the town of Puma Marca - all of the houses are constructed of adobe mud brick which is dug from the ground here. In most cases the families make their own bricks to
build their own houses)

(Right - we arrive at the school, and enter the gate to be greeted by the
children)

(Left - Gerard is remembered and greeted by the students who remembered him - he was known as "wakey-wakey")
